Dog walker appeal

A CHARITY which rescues and rehouses abandoned dogs is appealing for volunteer walkers to come forward.

Netherlands Dog Rescue in Kilnhurst needs people to take their dogs out for short walks between 11am and 3pm on any day of the week.

Jeanette Hollywood, who runs the centre, said: “It is a great way for people to keep fit and to get out into the fresh air.

“It is extremely good for the dogs to get out of the kennels for a walk, they really enjoy it.

“We have some dog walkers already but we really need some more volunteers.

“We would really appreciate it if anyone can give up some of their time to help us.”

Dog walkers will only be asked to walk a dog one at a time.

They are asked to keep them under close control.

The rescue is run by volunteers and funded by donations, their charity store in Mexborough and through fundraising events.

It is estimated to cost the rescue around £5.50 a day per dog for basic care such as food and cleaning out the kennels.

For further details about the rescue or to become a volunteer dog walker, contact Jeanette Hollywood on 07786 292104.
