100 YEARS AGO September 11, 1909 EPWORTH CHOIRS' TRIP
ON Monday about 90 persons went from Epworth by the excursion on the A.J.R. A few of the trippers alighted at Bridlington, and the majority, including the choirs from the Parish Church and the Wesley Memorial Church went on to Scarborough. Six hours of sunshine was registered. A few cricket enthusiasts had a good time watching the Gentlemen v Players match, others enjoyed themselves on the skating rink and various forms of recreation and entertainment which the "Queen of Watering Places" provides so well during the season.

ISLE OF AXHOLME WATER SUPPLY
BY 50 votes to 2 a parishioners' meeting at Haxey on Monday night empowered their local representatives on the Gainsborough Rural Council to support the scheme for a piped water supply for the geographical area of the Isle of Axholme.
The decision of the Gainsborough Rural Council to defer the whole question, as regards their three rural parishes of Haxey, Owston Ferry and West Butterwick, has caused the Axholme and Crowle Councils some concern. Parish meetings have already been held at Owston Ferry and West Butterwick, and in both cases the scheme was not supported, but Haxey, by far the largest of the three parishes, has given the scheme support. An interesting situation has now arisen as to how Gainsborough will act in the circumstances.

HAXEY METHODISTS GOLDEN JUBILEE
FIFTY years ago the Primitive Methodists of Haxey achieved their goal when their new church was opened and today the same church stands as a symbol of the Methodist witness in Haxey.
Under their minister, the Rev. P H Powell, they began to raise funds and at the end of a bazaar in 1908, they could say they had 150 towards the new building. They used 100 of this money to purchase the site. The plan for the new premises was drawn up and Messrs. Trimmingham and Walker, of Epworth, submitted an estimate of 554 12s. 8d. This did not include the cost of the new bricks.
One of the oldest members of the church, Mrs Mary Elizabeth Pantry, of "Beulah," Haxey Lane, will have the honour of cutting the golden jubilee cake.

'QUID' PRO QUO?
THE Imperial Hall in Chapel Street, Epworth, built by a private company as a village hall and remaining in that ownership until bought by Epworth Parish Council a few years ago, finally changed hands on Tuesday night, after prolonged dealing on the signing of a conveyance by Parish Council chairman Coun. Mrs Jean Turner and vice-chairman Coun. John Adams.
Buyers are a charitable trust formed to represent the interests of users, and they got it for a nominal 1, which were the terms agreed a considerable time ago in an offer made to the Hall Users' Committee provided the sale was made legally possibly by the formation of a trustee body acceptable to the Charity Comm-issioners.
