100 YEARS AGO June 25, 1910 WESLEYAN CIRCUIT PACKET TRIP
THERE were a record number of passengers at this popular annual packet trip to Hull, Grimsby and Spurn, which took place on Wednesday. Over three hundred people were taken on board 'The Scarborough' at Owston Ferry, and at all the other places a large company joined the boat.
Unfortunately at Keadby over thirty persons had to be left behind on account of the boat having its full number of passengers which it is allowed to carry. No doubt they, as well as the officials were disappointed that such a course had to be taken. The weather was not ideal as during the day the thunder showers somewhat marred the comfort of the passengers.

A161 PLAN DASHED
BELTON Parish Council has been disappointed by replies it has received from other parish councils about the volume of heavy traffic on the A161.
Councillor John Luke, chairman, had commented, "If we are to take the matter to a high level we should arm ourselves with statistics – numbers of vehicles, times of heaviest flow, tonnages and so on." Mr Reginald Miller of High Street was said to be compiling detailed records.
Earlier Coun Harry Hackney had said, "I think we should still pursue the matter, even though we have had disappointing replies. The problem is not going to go away. We owe it to the ratepayers to think what it is going to be like in ten, fifteen or twenty years from now." Coun Alan Pearson said Belton's High Street was not built for the traffic it was now enduring, there were damage and fractures in the roadway which were causing increasing expense.
