100 YEARS AGO June 11, 1910 NEW COLLIERY NEAR GOOLE

THERE is every prospect of a coal pit being sunk within eight miles of Goole, in a district served by three railways - Lancashire and Yorkshire, Hull and Barnsley, and Great Northern, and with the Goole and Knottingley Canal in close proximity. A private meeting of landowners, representative of 1,000 acres in the Snaith (near Goole) district, has been held at Snaith. It was stated that terms for boring for coal had been arrived at between the Landowners Committee and the Yorkshire Coal Boring Company, and had been embodied in a deed of arrangement, and there is every prospect of the venture being carried through.

AMERICAN TOUR

SEVEN weeks, 13,200 miles and (such are the temptations of the flesh) many gourmet meals after leaving Epworth, the Rev. W Le Cato Edwards is back at the Old Rectory enriched by the experiences of a wonderful American tour taking part in a conference of the Yokefellow movement in Indiana. Mr Edwards has used the opportunity to speak both in public and in private contact of the need of funds for the Old Rectory, if it is to be developed appropriately as the shrine of world Methodism. He has also visited Epworth-by-the-Sea on the shores of St. Simon's Island. Mr Edward said: "It is a perfectly glorious spot with every modern convenience that you could think of. It is a wonderful conference centre, there are Methodist conferences there all the year round - and we should like to make Epworth as good as that."
