Don't miss captivating love story at Lyceum
NOEL Cowards's quintessentially 1940s play - Brief Encounter - is to have a five day run at Sheffield's Lyceum Theatre later in the month.
Following its sensational success in the West End, one of the most memorable and heartbreaking love stories ever told will instantly transport theatregoers back to a bygone age of romance, theatre and the silver screen.
Nol Coward's enchanting play tells the story of Laura, a middle class housewife in the 1940's, who is struggling with her repetitive life.
Returning from one of her weekly excursions she gets a piece of grit in her eye and is helped by a passing doctor. Enjoying each other's company the two arrange to meet again but to their surprise they find their innocent and friendly relationship rapidly developing into love.
The production follows the couple as they embark on a furtive yet dreamy affair.
Laura, originally played by Celia Johnson in the film is played by Hannah Yelland. Laura is gentle, attractive and well mannered whilst the doctor - originally played by Trevor Howard, played in this production by Joseph Alessi - is good-looking, kind and flirtatious.
The relationship between the two characters creates captivating watching.
