Career of teen Sam is flying high
Sam Farmer, 17, from Finningley is giving up farming to be an Apprentice Aircraft Maintenance Mechanic with BAE Systems at its Robin Hood Airport�training facility.
TEENAGER Sam Farmer has swapped tractors for Typhoon fighter jets as he carves out a career.
For generations his family have been Farmers by name and farmers by nature, but the 17-year-old from Finningley has broken the mould.
The former pupil at Auckley’s Hayfield School is one of 16 trainees in this year’s cohort of apprentice aircraft maintenance mechanics to sign up for a two-year training scheme at BAE System’s base at Robin Hood Airport.
As part of his NVQ course Sam spend 12 months training at an RAF base helping to support the military’s fleet of jets.
