Achievements recognised at House of Lords

A DISABLED boy from the Isle has been recognised for his many achievements with a presentation at the House of Lords.

Jack Marshall, 11, is a junior ambassador for Move Europe, a charity which helps severely disabled children develop their movement and communication skills.

It is thanks to Move that the determined youngster, of Green Lane Farm, Belton, learned to walk and proud mum Linda explained Jack was one of only five children across the country to receive a graduation certificate from the charity.

The certificates recognised those who had excelled in the programme and put their new skills to good use with the select few and their families invited to London for a high-profile presentation at The House of Lords.

"It was just amazing, a beautiful day with the London Eye in the background and lots going up and down the Thames," explained Linda. "Jack just did what Jack does best and charmed the birds down from the trees, working the crowd, collecting business cards and getting all sorts of charity promises from people."

A pupil at St Luke's Special School in Scunthorpe, Jack boasts an impressive back catalogue of achievements such as walking across the Humber Bridge and completing both the Great Manchester and Great Yorkshire Junior Runs, all for good causes.

"I don't think Move has seen anyone like Jack before and they have also asked my daughter, Jaimie, to be a junior ambassador," added Linda. "I said God delivered me two aces and he has because I couldn't ask for any better than the two we got."

Jack will be competing in the Leeds Fun Run on September 13 along with Jaimie, 15, and celebrity friend Matthew Lewis - who plays Neville Longbottom in the Harry Potter films - all proceeds going to Action for Children.

And only six days later he will be donning his trainers once again to take part in the Great North Junior Run in Newcastle - along with another actor friend, Chris Chittell, who plays Eric Pollard in Emmerdale.

Funds raised from this event will go towards Move and to help orphans in Lesotho.
