Awards treat for pupils

HIGH-FLYING students at Mexborough School were recognised for their efforts throught the year at a red carpet awards evening.

Prizes were given out in the school hall recently to nearly 100 pupils who were commended for their achievements in front of an audience of family and friends.

Awards went to 58 students for high levels of attainment, 16 received Learning Family Awards and trophies for 100 per cent attendance were presented to a further 14 students.

Star pupil Nieve Cassidy, Year eight, received six awards, while the Dallowgill Music Prize went to Sarah Jackson and the Michael Willey Memorial Prize for achievement in adversity was given to Kieran Deakin.

Guest Speaker John Hunter, head teacher of St John the Baptist Primary School, said youngsters set an “inspiring example of how to embrace change.”

Head teacher Mirjam Bühler-Willey added students should be “proud” of their achievements.
