Building's future secured

THE future of the Victoria Institute in Misterton has been assured for another year following the intervention of local residents.

It was feared the building - which is derelict inside - might have reached the end of the road eight years after being abandoned by trustees and subsequently trashed by vandals.

Misterton Parish Council had adopted the former snooker club and set up the Misterton Community Trust (MCT) with the aim of securing a future for the building.

This future is now more secure after a number of residents agreed to pay the site's insurance premium for the next 12 months, after meeting last Saturday.

But a use must now be found for the building and a new group- The Friends of the Victoria Institute - has been set up.

It was also clarified at the meeting that a claim suggesting the grassed area at the rear of the Victoria Institute belonged to the MCT was incorrect.

The Certificate of Title had been checked and the land does not form part of the site, as the parish clerk stated at the meeting.

Those interested in becoming a Friend should contact Coun Ian Trossell on 01427 890704 or e-mail tross2554@msn.com
