Fancy dress shop gets surprise BBC order
AN EPWORTH fancy dress shop will be making its mark on the small screen this month after a surprise order from the BBC.
Owners at Epworth Fancy Dress on Fountain Court, were shocked to receive an e-mail from BBC One's Eastenders props department, asking for the shop's services.
Owner Steve Connolly was asked to prepare a Native American style full feathered headdress for the show, and have it shipped to Elstree Studios the same week.
He said: "We've got a website and they e-mailed us to say they wanted this item by Friday because they were filming a certain scene. They didn't give any details because they don't want you to know what the scenes are going to be."
It's the first time the shop have been asked to prepare for a television show, however a year ago Thomas Cook called for two pilots hats as part of a promotional clip.
Steve, who opened the shop in April 2008, said: "We're very popular with amateur dramatic societies and girls taking part in dancing competitions. At the moment we're making some costumes for another production and we've just completed the full costumes for a float at the Wroot Festival."
"Now we've got our eyes glued on Eastenders to see where our prop will pop up."
