Father and son team up

FATHER and son will team up for the first time when they help parishioners worship at Haxey Methodist Church on Sunday as part of a special annual service.

Senior Steward at the church, John Roberts, has the task of organising an Own Arrangement service, which instead of being led by the Minister offers the opportunity for participation by members of the congregation.

John, who has been involved in the Methodist church for 60 years - 34 of them in Haxey - has organised many services but this is the first time he has linked up with his son, Nigel, a Director with the Youth for Christ organisation, in Leicester.

"Nigel got a First Class degree in Law, from Nottingham University but felt his life always pulled him towards his Christianity," said proud father, John.

"Consequently, he gave up his job with the Coal Board 20 years ago and joined Youth for Christ.

"He now travels to schools all over the country guiding and training young people for work in the ministry of Christ."

Nigel will be delivering the address as part of the 10.45am service in Haxey, while John will lead it.

John added: "All I know about Nigel's address on Sunday is that it is to be about Zacharias."

Nigel has been to the area before visiting Epworth Show's praise tent.
