Fewer police to answer 999 calls
CUTS to the number of police officers who answer emergency calls in South Yorkshire are extremely worrying, claims an MP.
Barnsley East MP Michael Dugher is concerned at the loss since March last year of 49 officers who respond to 999 calls.
The number of police officers lost to South Yorkshire since May 2010 is now 119. This loss is set to rise to 436 and 680 police staff by 2015.
Mr Dugher said: “These cuts are going too far and too fast, with the steepest cuts in the first two years. That’s just not right.”
