Good report for Isle youngsters
ISLE pupils received a glowing report after new truancy statistics were released by the Government.
Figures for the autumn term of 2008 and the spring term of 2009 revealed that all 12 primary schools and the Isle's two high schools have an unauthorised absence rate of less than one per cent.
North Axholme recorded a rate of 0.4 per cent of pupils absent without good reason, while South Axholme recorded a rate of 0.7 per cent.
These positive figures were reflected in the Key Stage Two level as the rate varied from a tiny 0.1 per cent to 0.4 per cent in primary schools.
But it is in Eastoft and West Butterwick where pupils, families and teaching staff have most to be proud of as both village primary schools recorded a zero rate of unauthorised absence.
Eastoft headteacher Angela Hewson said: "We are proud of the fact that we have 0 per cent unauthorised absence.
"Our parents know and adhere to the school's procedures for reporting absence.
"This is just one of the many ways we work together with our parents and families.
"Indeed, this good working relationship between home and school was judged to be outstanding in our recent Ofsted report."
And West Butterwick headteacher Jayne Dance said: "We are quite good because if we do have anybody not in school we phone up straight away to find out why they are not in.
"Newsletters go out and praise pupils for good attendance and these also remind families when school is in - there is a good relationship between staff, parents and pupils.
"Children have their own reading and writing targets and they know if they don't come into school they will miss out."
