Police appeal after head-on collision
Police are appealing for witnesses after two people were injured in a head-on collision on the A61 Sheffield Road, at Worsbrough Bridge, Barnsley, yesterday morning.
The incident happened at 5.24am on Tuesday, 21 February, around 310 metres the Birdwell side of the junction of Sheffield Road with Worsbrough Road. A silver Vauxhall Vectra is believed to have been travelling towards Barnsley on the wrong side of the road when a blue Ford Fiesta, heading in the opposite direction, collided with it. The Fiesta driver, a 42-year-old man from Shafton, Barnsley, suffered slight cuts and bruising and pain to his chest. He was treated at Barnsley District General Hospital before being allowed home.
The Vectra driver, a 42-year-old Barnsley man, suffered slight bruising and swelling to his right ankle. He was treated at the same hospital, but not detained.
Following his release from BDGH, the Vectra driver was arrested by police for dangerous driving, failing to provide a urine sample at hospital and driving other than in accordance with a licence. He was taken to Barnsley Police Station for questioning, but later released on police bail pending further enquiries.
