Police appeal for ‘hit and run’ death smash witnesses

Police are appealing for witnesses after a man died in a suspected hit and run smash.

Fifty-six–year-old Peter Topping died from the injuries he sustained when a car ran over him on Co-Operative Street, Goldthorpe on Thursday, 29 December.

At around 8.25pm last Thursday, Peter Topping, from Goldthorpe, is believed to have been lying in the road on Co-Operative Street when an unknown car drove over him.

The car is thought to have continued along Co-Operative Street and then turned right into Doncaster Road.

Officers investigating the incident would like witnesses to come forward if they have seen Mr Topping lying in the road, seen the impact itself or think they may have been in the car that hit Peter Topping.

Police are also interested to hear from anybody who has noticed the absence of a locally owned/parked car or an abandoned one.

Anyone who can help is urged to contact South Yorkshire Police on 101 quoting incident 779 of 29, December or call Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
