Promoting healthy living

STEP out for no smoking day.

More than 200 people are expected to take part in a mass walk in the grounds of Normanby Hall Museum and Country Park to celebrate No Smoking Day.

People are invited to take part in the walk to show their support for friends and relatives who want to stop smoking.

It is part of a series of events across North Lincolnshire to promote No Smoking Day and highlight the help on offer to people who want to quit.

The walk will be led by North Lincolnshire mayor, Councillor Sue Armitage, and started by Scunthorpe United manager Nigel Adkins.

It begins at 10am on Wednesday March 10 and will be a gentle stroll of about three miles long to suit people of all health levels and abilities.

People taking part are being encouraged to wear No Smoking Day-theme fancy dress such as cigarette costumes, prisoner uniforms and chains.

Coun Trevor Barker, lead member for the environment, said: "It's a most important day as it gives people the opportunity to see what has been done, what is being done and what can be done in terms of the help available for people who wish to stop smoking.

"As a council we'll do everything we can to assist people who want to stop smoking and we are working closely with the free NHS stop smoking services, which are the best in the world, to help all people in North Lincolnshire to lead healthier lives."

To join in the walk call 01724 297342 or email Greg.Gough@northlincs.gov.uk.
