Street success for drink team

A WEEKEND patrol team have helped more than 100 people since taking to town centre to help drinkers.
The team, made up of Special Constables from South Yorkshire Police, volunteers from Street Pastors and paramedics from the Yorkshire Ambulance Service have helped treat 73 people for minor injuries in December and a further 38 revellers in January.
The team are based in the town centre on Fridays and Saturdays from 10am to 4pm and aim to help treat people who would otherwise end up in A&E or calling out an ambulance.
With police officers on hand it also means the team can deal with and difuse any violent situations that may break out, and the street pastors, a team of church volunteers, then help the person get into a taxi so they are not hanging around the city centre.
The Street Pastors patrolled for 95 hours throughout December, issued 70 pairs of flip flops to prevent any injuries to people found wandering the streets without shoes on, handed out 16 bottles of water and three foil blankets, helping in total 108 people.
