SUCCESSFUL children’s author, David Gatward, spent an exciting day at South Axholme School last week.

Head of English Sheelagh Handy said : “It was exciting for two reasons – this was David’s first visit back to his old school and he has fond memories of living in Epworth with his family.

“Secondly, South Axholme pupils were able to work with David in some lively workshops looking at the creative process behind his writing.”

David is having real success with his series ‘Dave and the Dead’. Pupils were able to pre-order books and have them signed by David himself.

They are also being given the chance to enter a writing competition, which David will judge himself.

He has donated a limited edition skateboard as a prize; there are only 30 in the world!

“Pupils loved the opportunity to work with an author and find out about the way David followed his dream to become a writer,” Sheelagh added. “The workshops were buzzing and inspiring.”
