Warning on bogus callers after theft
POLICE are warning people to be on their guard against bogus callers and not to let anyone into their home unless they can show an identification card.
The warning comes after two men tricked their way into the home of an 83-year-old woman living at Brethergate Villas in Westwoodside on Friday afternoon.
At about 1.30pm a man knocked on the door of the property and told the woman he was there to check her electricity. She let the man into her kitchen, where he asked her to use the microwave to check the electricity.
The man then left the kitchen and another man entered the property and went upstairs. The second man stole money and a wallet. The resident was then told her electricity was fine and the first man left.
The burglary took place between 1.30pm and 2pm on the Friday and anyone with any information about the incident is asked to call Humberside Police on 0845 60 60 222 quoting reference BF/1682870/2009.
