Emergency services were called at around 1.20am to High Street, Askern, following reports a man had been seriously assaulted outside the White Hart pub.

He was taken to hospital with life-threatening injuries where he remains in a critical condition.

There were road closures and diversions in place, between the A19 towards Askern, from Doncaster, up to the junction with Station Road and the A19, for over 12 hours yesterday as police carried out enquiries and combed the area for evidence.

Resident Jim Hill went past the police cordon around the scene of the attack at around 5am yesterday and said: “There were around five police cars blocking the road. They had the whole road taped off near the boating lake.”
