A Derbyshire burglar has been jailed for four years after his blood was found at the scene of his crime in Sheffield.

Brett Thomas, 33, of Circular Drive, Renishaw, was sentenced at Sheffield Crown Court on Wednesday, March 16, after earlier pleading guilty to two burglaries.

Thomas was arrested by officers after his DNA was matched to blood found near to glass shards from the door of the flat he burgled in the Halfway area of Sheffield in November last year. Thomas was also sentenced for a second burglary at an address in Barlborough.

After the sentencing, PC Ryan Griffiths said: “This demonstrates the value of our scenes of crime officers and how we effectively use forensic science to identify and arrest those involved in burglary.

“Thomas was a prolific burglar who now has some time in prison to contemplate his actions and the suffering he has caused to householders who have been through the awful experience of coming home to find their properties have been broken into.”
