Planned events to mark 100 years of the Women’s Institute in the Isle had to be postponed last year due to unforeseen circumstances, but it was always intended that they should take place and now they will.

The branches of Haxey W.I. and Owston Ferry W.I. are linking together for their celebration on March 16.

An evening of coutry dancing to the sounds of a live folk band and a buffet will be enjoyed by members and guests at Owston Ferry’s Coronation Hall.

Kay Smith of Haxey Women’s Institute branch is one of the organisers of the event.

She said: “It’s important that we mark the centenary in some way. The Women’s Institute is a great place for people to meet up and enjoy each other’s company and learn new things. I knew no-one at all in the area when I first joined. We meet every first Wednesday of the month in Haxey Memorial Hall and new members are always welcome.”
