A 41-year-old woman who was previously arrested on suspicion of murder remains on bail.

Police say more arrests may be made and are still appealing for witnesses to come forward to piece together Mr Cumpsty’s movements in the seven days before his death.

Mr Cumpsty dead at his home in Cross Street, Balby, at about 4.30am on Friday, March 11.

Detective Chief Inspector Victoria Short said: “He had a number of internal and external injuries and we are trying to identify how these were caused and who caused them.

“The injuries are consistent with serious assaults and we are still working on the basis that the injuries may have been sustained over a number of days before his death.

“We are piecing together the last week of Mr Cumpsty’s life and looking at who he may have had a dispute with at that time and these enquiries have led us to the arrests of these two individuals.

“There are still gaps in the time line of the last seven days of Mr Cumpsty’s life and that’s why we still need the public to come forward.”

Police said the people who have been arrested are still being interviewed and no charges have yet been made.

Det Ch Insp Short said: “His family are being kept up to date with the developments and they are absolutely devastated.”

Police confirmed a witness had come forward to say they saw Mr Cumpsty on the floor near his bike on Oliver Road in Balby on the Wednesday before his death around 11.40am.

Det Ch Insp Short said: “Mr Cumpsty told a police community support officer at that time that he had fallen off his bike and would not elaborate but there are no witnesses who saw him fall.

“It may be that he was assaulted or involved in an RTC and we would ask anyone who may have information about this incident to come forward. Police believe Christopher Cumpsty died as a result of multiple injuries sustained up to seven days before he died.”

Anyone with information can call police on 101 quoting incident number 128 of March 11 or Crimestoppers on 0800 555111.
