STAR Wars characters will be among the scores of mourners expected to turn out for the funeral of Alexander Strong on Tuesday.

They will include Lex’s favourite character, Captain Rex, and may form a guard of honour outside the church, in a special tribute to the brave seven-year old.

The characters had been due to see Lex at Epworth last Saturday, in a visit arranged by ‘Battle of the Books’ authors Rebecca Kershaw and Adele Carrington.

Mourners have also been requested by the Strong family to wear green at the funeral, as it was Lex’s favourite colour.

Family and friends are invited to meet at the Wesley Memorial Church, Epworth, at 11.30am on February 5, to be followed by committal at Woodlands Crematorium.

Family flowers only have been requested, with donations in Lex’s memory to be split between ‘Lexy’s Fund’ and Bluebell Wood Children’s Hospice.

Lex’s former school, Epworth Primary will be closed for the day on Tuesday, to allow staff and pupils to attend the service.

Alexander, of Burnham Road, leaves parents Mark and Maxine, and sister Olivia, along with grandparents, other family members and very many friends.

David Leese, minister at Epworth Wesley Memorial Methodist Church, said: “The courage Alexander and his family have shown has been an inspiration to everyone. The community is absolutely devastated by his loss.”
