A classy display from U10s

Epworth Colts U10s 2 Barton Juniors U10s 1

THIS cup quarter final started at a frantic pace with both sides playing some good attacking football.

The first chance, however, fell to Colts striker Dan Brewer who just failed to put away a difficult chance.

The Colts had their opponents on the back foot, with midfielder's Jordan Jenkinson and Bobby Foster cutting through the Barton defence time after time.

Foster who was unlucky not to score with an excellent volley that was heading for the top corner, but a superb save from Barton's keeper kept the score at 0-0.

Colts keeper George Moore was brought into action soon after, making a fantastic double save.

Barton were now coming more into the game, but the defence of Cam Young, Ben Carson and Mitch Fulwood nullified the Barton forwards.

A defence-splitting pass from Frazer Horsefield found Foster, whose shot was deflected for a corner which Will Gillis floated into the penalty box.

After a scramble Josh Richarson prodded the ball home. 1-0 to the Colts.

The first half came to a close with an amazing run from his own penalty box by Young. He beat three players on the way to laying the ball off to Richarson, who fired narrowly wide.

Minutes into the second half keeper Moore had to be on his toes making a fine one handed save.

A fine passing movement between Foster and Fulwood released Carter down the wing, whose pin-point pass picked out Richardson, who slammed the ball home for his second goal.

Gillis, Young and Carson were solid in defence, easily breaking up everything their opponents could throw at them.

Jenkinson and Horsefield in midfield were making some excellent runs and passes to forward pair Brewer and Richardson.

With five minutes to go Barton scored a break-away goal, but the Colts back came again.

Fulwood and Horsefield were unlucky not to add to the tally and Jenkinson came close in the dying seconds.

This excellent game of football saw Colts the victors and they progress to the semi-final of the league cup.

Man of the Match was Josh Richardson.
