Become a real lady of leisure with activities
THE New Year may seem like a distant memory but it’s not too late to stick to your healthy lifestyle resolutions.
North Lincolnshire Council are encouraging women to try a new way of getting fit with its range of women only activities.
Jogging is becoming popular as it’s a cheap and sociable sport, but starting out can be difficult. That’s why the council have a number of ladies only jog groups designed especially for beginners.
The groups are for ladies aged 18 and over and are led by a trained leader who guide, support and motivate the group. It’s a great way to take regular exercise and meet new friends, without the pressure of competition.
Everyone is welcome to try their first two sessions as a trial before committing to membership.
The jog groups take place on the following days:
The Barton group
Meet at Baysgarth Leisure Centre every Tuesday at 6.30pm to 7.30pm. Contact jog leader Nicky on 07738 758125.
The Riddings group

If cycling is more your thing, a number of ladies cycling groups are being set up across North Lincolnshire.
Designed for novice cyclists, the groups are geared around a friendly, informal network of women. So if you have a desire to get out on your bike or want more details, call Lee Olivant 07710 258391 or email lee.olivant@northlincs.gov.uk.
Finally, take a trip back to your school days and revisit your love for netball, there are two ways for women to play in North Lincolnshire.
The first is pay and play ladies netball sessions which take place on a Thursday from 7pm to 8pm at the Pods in Scunthorpe.
All you have to do is turn up in appropriate footwear and clothing and join in the fun. To book your place or for more information, call the Pods on 01724 291900.
The second way to play is North Lincolnshire Council’s corporate netball offer. Why not ask around at work and see if your colleagues want to form a team?
The over 18s netball sessions are open to employers in North Lincolnshire who want to invest in the health and wellbeing of their workforce.
This session is specifically aimed at ladies who have never played netball or not played since leaving school.
Regular weekly sessions will be played at the Pods in Scunthorpe from 8pm to 9pm at a cost of £2.50 per head per session. All equipment is provided and again, women just have to turn up in appropriate clothing and footwear.
To enter a team of 7 ladies or more, call Lee Olivant on 01724 297298 or email lee.olivant@northlincs.gov.uk.
Councillor John Briggs, cabinet member for asset and estate management, sport, leisure and culture said:
“The council are committed to making it easier for everyone to feel the benefits of a healthy lifestyle.
“These women only sessions are a great way for ladies to find something they love to do, get fit and enjoy themselves at the same time”.
