Colts are back in the winning seat

Epworth Colts Under 10s 2 Ashby Irons Under 10's 0

THE Colts got back to winning ways with this superb performance in the second round of the cup. Straight from the kick off Colts were on the attack. A defence splitting pass from Mitch Fulwood found Liam Norton who was unlucky not to score with a blistering drive.

Excellent link up play between Fulwood and Fraser Horsefield ended with the latter just missing the target. The Irons attacks were limited due to some excellent defensive work by Cam Young, Dan Brewer and Will Gillis.

George Moore was a virtual spectator but when called into action coped admirably with any shots fired at him.

The Colts were finally rewarded with a superb goal after some fine wing play from Jordan Jenkinson who cut inside the Irons defence and lobbed the keeper from 15 yards.

A superb jinking run from Bobby Foster ended with a through ball to Norton who was unlucky not to score. With all the Colts intense pressure the first half ended 1-0.

The second half got under way with the Colts again pressurising the Irons defence, Gillis and Brewer combining to free Horsefield which ended with him firing narrowly wide.

The impressive Norton was rampaging down both wings firing in crosses which the Colts forwards failed to capitalise on, although Jenkinson pinged in a volley which was well saved by the Irons keeper.

The Irons had a rare strike on goal but keeper Moore was equal to it and made a brilliant save.

The Colts pushed on looking for a second goal, a superb pass from Young set Foster up for a strike on goal that the Irons keeper saved well.

It was all Colts now and shots came in fast and furious from Brewer, Gillis and Horsefield softening up the Irons keeper for the killer punch to come.

A great run by Fulwood earned the Colts their umpteenth corner; it was taken by Norton who popped over a beautiful cross to be met by the heads of Jenkinson and Foster who planted the ball high into the roof of the net.

It was no more than the Colts deserved; this was a devastating display of passing and movement by the boys.

Coaches Andy and Paul have got this team firing on all cylinders.

The man of the match was awarded jointly to Liam Norton and Jordan Jenkinson.
