Colts' score out of reach for visitors
Epworth Colts 5, Bonby Juniors 0 Under 12s Caparo league
Epworth enjoyed a convincing win in their latest league match, with three second half goals putting the result beyond doubt.
Epworth started brightly and Will Platt soon made a surging run down the left before playing a pass into the path of Liam McKay whose shot was deflected just wide of the goal. From the resulting corner, swung in by Dave Mann, McKay's fierce header was blocked by the 'keeper. Thomas Beverley met the rebound only to see his shot saved.
After this early spell of pressure, Bonby began to create attacks of their own but defenders Jake Poole and Chris Jones coped very well with the Bonby stikers.
Mann and Jones both went close with a shot and a header respectively before Epworth grabbed their first goal through Jack Kelly. He played a great one-two before superbly chipping the ball into the far corner.
Epworth continued to press forward. Kelly almost scored a second goal when Beverley and McKay combined well down the left to deliver a low cross into the penalty area. His first time shot was expertly tipped over the bar by the 'keeper.
Epworth extended their lead after Jake Cranston exchanged passes with Kelly before firing the ball into the net from the right hand side.
Bonby still threatened to score and 'keeper Josh Saczek had to make a brave save to block a shot.
Just before half time, Mann went on a solo run down the left hand side of the pitch before hitting a shot just inches past the far post.
At the start of the second half, with the wind at their backs, Epworth continued to dominate the play. Jack Ball rifled home a brilliant goal from just inside the penalty area to make the scoreline 3-0.
Goal scoring chances came thick and fast, with Mann and Ball both having more efforts on goal. George Woodhead, who was instrumental in many of Epworth's best moves, hit a long, looping shot that hit the bar.
Mann saw his excellent shot tipped superbly round the post by the 'keeper before finally getting on the scoresheet when he found himself through on goal and slipped the ball over the advancing 'keeper.
Epworth's fifth came after a run and low cross from the left by Mann was met by Beverley who fired a first time shot past the 'keeper to complete the scoring.
