Cougars claw their way back to the top
Division One Caistor Cougars climbed back to the top of the Division One table following their 93 run victory over Appleby Frodingham 3rds last weekend.
Mark Watkins starred for the Cougars again , hitting 61 whilst Harry Boulton made 48 as they posted a total of 165 for 9, Dixon picking up 5 for 36 for Frod who were then dismissed for 73, Paul Dimbleby taking 4 for 29 and Joe Smith 3 for 17.
The other Division One match saw Barton Town 3rds squeeze to a narrow one wicket victory over previous leaders Cleethorpes 5ths in a real thriller at Marsh Lane but the match was secondry to the bravery of 16-year-old Jo Brunwin who played a part in the game despite the sad loss of his father recently.
Cleethorpes made 165 for 9 in their alloted overs Martin Twyman hitting 50 whilst Matt Austin took 5 for 23 for the Humbersiders who in reply made 166 for 9 thanks to 65 from Josh Van den Bos and 40 from James Austin, Woodward picking up 4 for 3 for the Meggies, young master Brunwin guiding his team home with 10 not out which would have made his father proud.
Barton and indeed the whole of the North Lindsey league wish Jo and his family strength in their time of sorrow.
Division Two
League leaders South Kelsey 3rds suffered their first Sunday defeat when going down to Alkborough 3rds who comfortably overcame Kelsey's 64 all out and that would have allowed second placed Hibaldstow to close the gap on them had they managed to beat lowly Luddington but it was the Isle outfit that won through by 7 wickets after an excellent all round display.
Hibaldstow were bowled out for 85, Jerry Thomas top scoring with 18 whilst Arron Curry took 4 for 13 for Ludd who then eased to 86 for 3 thanks chiefly to Darren Clark who hit a masterful 54 to guide his team home.
Bottesford remain bottom of the table without a point following their 61 run defeat against Brigg Town 3rds who set a target of 161 for 7, Jack Richards scoring 70 and Carl Taylor 30 before ex Scunthorpe United custodian Paul Musslewhite proved his prowess with the cricket ball when taking an impressive 6 for 17 as Bottesford were dismissed for 100, Dave Kilgallon top scoring with 44.
Division Three
There were runs galore in Division Three, non more so than at Misterton where two previously unbeaten sides went toe to toe. Outcasts 3rds set a huge score of 209 for 7, Andy Lawson making 76 and Jamie Belton 60 with home skipper Darren Emmingham picking up 5 for 48 and the same player lead by example in his team's reply, hitting a magnificent 101 only to see his side fall 19 runs short , Craig McAnaney taking 6 for 42 for the Isle team.
Barton Town 4ths also made over 200 when batting first against Holton Le Clay 3rds , Nathan Jones hitting 50 not out and Ollie Mussett 38 out of a total of 201 for 8 then Jones picked up 3 for 24 as HLC were bowled out for 159, Dave White scoring 61 from the opening slot.
Finally Everton 3rds inflicted a third defeat of the season on new boys Upton cum Kexby when beating them by 122 runs in a Gainsborough village derby.
