Doncaster Rovers: Ferguson keen on McSheffrey transfer talks

Darren Ferguson has revealed he hopes to begin talks with Gary McSheffrey over a permanent move to Doncaster Rovers.

McSheffrey made a big impression after joining on loan from Scunthorpe United in March, playing a major role in their mini-revival before suffering a knee injury which ended his season early.

Ferguson admits he would like to sign the 33-year-old and says McSheffrey – who lives in Doncaster – himself is keen.

But the situation may have become more complicated with Rovers’ pending drop into League Two.

“Gary is a player I enjoy working with, he understands the way we want to play,” Ferguson said.

“He really enjoyed it and we’re both open to talking when the season is over to make it permanent.

“He’s out of contract. Whether Scunthorpe offer him something else, I don’t know.

“But the boy really enjoyed it so we’ll see what happens.

“I think a lot of things do change when you go from League One to League two.

“But he is keen to even talk about it which is important.”
