Doncaster Rovers: Marosi ready to do battle with Etheridge

Marko Marosi says he is a better goalkeeper than when he first joined Doncaster Rovers.

The 22-year-old has praised goalkeeping coach Paul Gerrard for his role in his development and says the former Oldham Athletic and Everton stopper is a major reason why he opted to remain at Rovers.

Marosi has made just six first team appearances in two years at Doncaster but penned a one-year contract extension earlier this month.

And the Slovakian insists he is ready to push new signing Ross Etheridge all the way for the shirt.

“The gaffer’s philosophy and his style of play really suits me,” said Marosi, when asked why he had re-signed.

“Our goalkeeping coach Paul Gerrard as well. We get along so well and his training is just perfect for me and I feel I can develop a lot more under him.

“Since I first signed here, I think I’ve improved a lot.

“Fitness-wise, strength-wise, technically, handling, reflexes - I’ve improved a lot in everything under Paul Gerrard.

“I’m glad that I can be here for another year and hopefully more, keep improving, and hopefully get that chance and when it comes, take it.

“I’m prepared to do whatever it takes and to try my best.

“I’ll come back to pre-season fit and healthy, in good shape and good form, and show the gaffer that he can put his trust in me.

“Hopefully I’ll get to play a couple of friendlies and it’s up to me to show the manager what I can do.”
