Epworth Under 12s dominated the game right from the start
Crosby Utd 0 Epworth Utd U12s 3
HAVING had numerous games cancelled because of the weather, Epworth travelled to Scunthorpe for what was their first match of the new year.
Despite having not played a competitive game for several weeks, Epworth showed no signs of lethargy and from the off dominated the play.
Cal Smith and Oliver Munday were quick to force an early corner which was saved by the Crosby keeper.
Munday was unlucky minutes later when an excellent flick on, off the head of George Wigham, smashed into the side netting.
Epworth took the deserved lead when a cross in the box from Smith was slotted in to the back of the net by George Algar.
Wigham made a solid run up the middle and his cross to Munday was cleared for a corner, which was subsequently saved by the home goalie.
KJ Wilson sprinted the ball up the left wing but was robbed of the ball by the confident keeper before he could take his shot.
The half time score remained 0-1.
Within minutes of the second half whistle, Rory Gallagher made a lovely cross from the right to Wigham, who trickled the ball over the line to extend Epworth's lead.
Any breaks in to the visitors half were dealt with effectively at the back by Gallagher, Adam Dixon and the solid right boot of Jordan Oliver.
Making another good run up the wing and around two defenders, Wilson was unfortunate to have his shot scooped clear by the keeper.
Gallagher set Wigham up again with another timely pass forward but the midfielders shot was just short and the keeper came off his line to collect.
Munday took Epworth's lead to 0-3 when he was on the receiving end of Smith's corner and was able to shoot the ball low past the stationary goalie.
Crosby almost clawed a goal back on the edge of time, but keeper Kitty Brooks kept her clean sheet with a great save, which left her on the floor and chaos in the box as the rebound was cleared by Gallagher, only for it to be struck again but Smith cleared it off the line to safety.
No individual man of the match was awarded as the whole team performance was outstanding.
Get well wishes go to Epworth Utd coach Nick Munday from all the team after his accident at the weekend.
