Epworth lead by one point

JUST four points separate the top four teams in the Isle of Axholme Billiards League, with Epworth B just one point ahead of Scunthorpe at the top.

But Scunthorpe are in a commanding position, having failed to complete their fixture against Owston Ferry A because of the snow, and therefore snapping at Epworth's heels with a game in hand.

The win which took Epworth B to the top was the best of the week, as they outplayed Misterton B 15-6, winning five tables to the visitors' one, along with two-point and one-point losing games.

Ferry B bounced back to form with a 15-11 win at home to Ferry C, with four wins, a two-point and a one-point losing game. One of the B team's victories came courtesy of Shaun Harrison, who was brought from his bed to the table, where he beat K Hargreaves 150 to 145.

Misterton A, playing their home fixture away at Epworth A, won by a convincing 14-7 margin, with four wins and a two-point losing game to the Epworth team's two wins and a one-point losing game.Westwoodside and Butterwick B finished all square on 11 each, with both winning three tables and a two-point and a one-point losing game. It's a result that leaves both teams within striking distance of the top of the table.

Highest breaks this week: Lawrence Torn: 53, 42 and 37; Ian Glover: 42, 41 and 37; Graham Haggard: 39 and 31; George Weldrick 27 and an unfinished 33.
