Good result for Juniors

Messingham Juniors 1 Epworth Town U10s 2

THROUGH to the second round of the Cup, Epworth Town were up against first division, Messingham Juniors.

Not to be intimidated by this, the Epworth team were resilient and committed to giving it their very best. This was a fast paced game throughout and Epworth had the first shot on goal within the first few minutes from Nathan Wilson but hit the post.

There was plenty of great team play from Will Durning, Sophie Hibbert and Patrick Axe delivering some good balls up to striker Nathan Wilson who got past a heavy defence to have several shots on goal.

It was Messingham who managed the first goal of the day to make it 1-0.

Keeping their heads high, Epworth kept the pace up but a player brought down meant that a penalty was awarded to Epworth, with the captain Patrick Ford stepping up to take it on, he struck a ferocious shot past the keeper to equalise.

Going into the second half Max Brinkley was kept busy, managing to save everything that came his way. Sophie Hibbert made a great impact with some superb tackles and passing.

Midfielders Macauley Scott and Macca Nortcliffe were also winning some great balls. Coming close to the end of the game, a corner for Epworth was taken by Ben McCormack but was saved by the keeper, however, he dropped the ball and a quick witted Macauley Scott was well placed to win the ball back and slam it in the back of the net to finish the game 1-2.

Already nursing a crushed finger, Patrick Ford, never one to shy away from a tackle, was on the receiving end of a frustrated players 'rogue fist' which broke his nose.

With Alfie Ward not playing due to injury, he was still there to support the team.

Player of the match was awarded to a hard working Sophie Hibbert.
