Keys side are blown away by Barton
Crowle Keys 1 Barton Broncos 3
WINDSOR Park’s reputation as the windiest ground in the league was enhanced by the kind of gale which took the ball into the car park in the corner of the field throughout the game.
Fellow strugglers Barton took advantage of these conditions in the first half, going in front on 10 minutes from a free-kick which went through the home side’s defensive wall and into the top corner.
Both sides found difficulty in keeping the ball and neither keeper had much to do for the next half hour until the visitors doubled their lead after the Keys defence failed to clear another free-kick.
Jamie Smyth had Crowle’s best opportunity of the opening period when he broke into the Barton box, only to be denied by a sliding tackle as he was about to shoot.
Keys saw more of the ball after the break but wayward shooting let the hosts down and the game was effectively over on 70 minutes when Broncos burst down their right to beat Graeme Fletcher and make it 3-0.
Crowle’s manager Danny Taylor moved himself into an attacking role and his last minute consolation goal justified the decision but it was too little, too late.
Keys are without a game this week but resume on Sunday, February 5, at Mill Road Club in Scunthorpe.
