Treble joy for golfer

ISLE of Axholme Golf Society member Alan Proctor recorded a hat-trick of wins at the recent Captain's Day event held at Scunthorpe's Ashby Decoy course.

Both individual and team formats were adopted for the 18-hole competition, contested under Stableford rules, and Proctor took top honours with a score of 41 points, ahead of second-placed Mark Clayton on 32.

The longest drive, on hole 17, was recorded by 15-year-old George Moody, with Proctor again excelling in the nearest the pin competition on hole 12, Steve Moore performing the same feat on hole 16.

Proctor also featured in the best team award when an average score of 30.66 points secured the honours, along with Paul Coulthurst, Derek Johnson and Steve Lonsdale.

Club captain Tom Sanders presented the prizes.

The next society outing will be on Sunday, August 8, at Thornhurst Park Golf Course, 10.30am start, with all members and guests welcome.

Non-members are welcome by arrangement and a 20 payment will cover 2010 fees, contact Mr Sanders on 01724 712089.

* The 2010 BBC Children in Need Appeal open pairs competition will take place at Kingswood Golf Course, Hatfield, on Sunday, September 26, 9.30am tee-off. Entry forms available from most golf clubs.
