All boys dance group ready to bust a move in the Isle

Following on from the huge popularity of taster sessions held at schools across the county, North Lincolnshire Council is launching a new weekly dance group for young men aged seven to 16.

Since autumn last year NLC has been running taster sessions for boys in primary and secondary schools in Scunthorpe and the Isle of Axholme.

This was alongside residency project with all-male dance company, 2Faced.

To continue the success of these sessions and to keep boys engaged with dance in North Lincolnshire, Alpha Boys Dance Company is being launched.

At Alpha sessions, boys will learn street dance, breakin’ and hip hop styles with a trained male dancer and visiting professionals. They will soon see that dancing is a physical and mental workout, requiring focus and nerves of steel; it’s definitely not just for girls!

Councillor John Briggs, NLC’s cabinet member for Assets, Culture and Housing, said: “Workshops and performances from 2Faced Dance Company have shown young men and boys in North Lincolnshire that dancing is not just a girls’ activity. We are continuing that momentum and launching Alpha as part of the South Bank Dance project.

“The Alpha Boys Dance Company will have the opportunity to perform locally and regionally – a chance to show off our area’s true talents.”

Alpha sessions cost just £2 and will take place every Monday (term-time only) from 7 March onwards, from 5pm to 6pm at Belton Public Hall, Belton, DN9 1LR.

They are also looking to hear from boys and young men who are interested in the sessions but are unable to travel to Belton.

South Bank Dance is made possible with funding from Arts Council England, North Lincolnshire Council, Lincs Inspire Ltd and Yorkshire Dance.
