The feature event boasts a roll of honour which includes Red Rum and this year’s contest, which boasts a prize fund of £150,000 has attracted 23 runners. We have previewed the action.
The 5/1 favourite for this year’s renewal is Aye Right who bids to be a Scottish-trained winner of the contest. The eight-year-old was a fine third in handicap company at the Cheltenham Festival and looks sure to be suited by the drying ground at Ayr.

Vintage Clouds (10/1) rolled back the years with a smart success at the Cheltenham Festival and is another who is bound to be suited by drying ground.
Soldier Of Love (10/1) is an interesting contender for champion trainer Paul Nicholls having been off the track since running at Cheltenham in November. He looks a threat if able to rediscover his best form, as does another Scottish-trained runner in Mighty Thunder. He finished an excellent second in the Midlands Grand National at Uttoxeter in March and is clearly proven over a demanding trip. He also beat Dino Boy (10/1) on his penultimate start by 20 lengths at Musselburgh (16/1)
Sam’s Adventure (10/1) captured the Eider Chase at Newcastle on his latest start and is another sure to be suited by this marathon trip and is of interest despite now being off a career high mark of 147. Notachance (14/1) also brings solid long-distance form to the table having scored at Warwick in the Classic Chase in January, whilst Lake View Lad (20/1) fell in last weekend’s Grand National and makes a quick turnaround here.

Others who warrant a mention include Mister Fogpatches (14/1), an Irish raider who remains unexposed and shaped well at Leopardstown last time out, along with last time out winner Chapel Stile (20/1) and Big River (20/1) who boasts winning course form.
Elsewhere on the card, Allmankind looks a leading player in the Future Champion Novices’ Chase at 3.00pm for Harry Skelton who currently leads the jockeys’ championship. His three rivals all boast smart form this term, headed by Taramoc Du Mathan and Whoshotthesheriff. Malystic completes the quartet.
Newbury also stages an excellent card on Sunday which is headlined by the Greenham Stakes at 3.20pm.
